Betsey Armstrong in Skip Shot Magazine
Betsey Armstrong was recently featured in Skip Shot, the official publication of the USA Water Polo. Sponsored by Kaenon Polarized, the USA Water Polo teams are in the middle of an intense season, and Betsey is a crucial part of the women’s team as starting goalie. Betsey wears Leila.
In an interview with Skip Shot, Betsey reflected on how far she has come as a water polo player and where the team is heading in the near future:
“SS: 2010 was a big year for you. Along with two Gold Medals, you were a finalist for the Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year, graced the cover of ESPN the Magazine, and were recognized as a champion by the New York Athletic Club. What do you take away from some of the out-the-pool stuff?
BA: It’s been a very busy year. The outside-the-pool stuff has again been great for our program. As the Pan American and Olympic Games approach, it always seems to get busier. Our team has had an incredible few years but still has a long way to go. The various events and awards for this year are a reflection of the amazing supporters our team has, and where we want to go over these next 18 months.
SS: 2011 is a huge year for the team with an opportunity to earn a berth in the Olympics and the Pan American Games. How much do events like these and the upcoming World Championships motivate you and the team?
BA: Games and tournaments are always motivating. They’re a chance to really put our training to the test. We have a lot lined up for 2011; it’s going to be a very important year for us for training and competition purposes. I think everyone is looking forward to getting right to work.”
